Tech Desk. Bharti Airtel today announced that it has successfully conducted India’s first 5G trial in the 700 MHz band in partnership with Nokia. It was conducted on the outskirts of Kolkata and was also the first 5G trial in eastern India. Airtel has been allotted trial spectrum across multiple bands for verification of 5G technology and use cases by the DoT. Airtel used devices from Nokia’s 5G portfolio, which included the Nokia Airscale Radio and Standalone (SA) Core.
5G network will be available soon
Randeep Singh Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel said, “Airtel launched India’s first 4G service in Kolkata in 2012. Today we are delighted to host India’s first 5G demo in the iconic 700 MHz band in the city to showcase the power of this technology benchmark. We believe that with the right pricing of 5G spectrum in the upcoming auctions, India will continue to drive the digital dividend.
Earlier this year, Airtel showcased India’s first 5G experience on a live 4G network. It also showcased India’s first rural 5G trial as well as the first cloud gaming experience on 5G. As part of #5GforBusiness, Airtel has joined hands with leading global consulting and technology companies and brands to test 5G based solutions.
